Football is Africa’s favourite sport, and no nation has football fever quite like Ghana. Future Leaders founder Billa has been using football to motivate, educate and entertain local children since the beginning of the project in 1998. Today you can help deliver that coaching programme to local children living in poverty.

Volunteer Coaches plan and run football sessions, sharing their knowledge and skills; teaching the rules of the game and demonstrating to the players about the importance of team work. We also run a girls netball team and welcome volunteers to help run the netball school.

Future Leaders coach six Ghana Football Association-registered teams: U12, U15, U17, girls, 2nd division adults and 3rd division adults. The three pitches are in La, on what was once a rubbish dump, which Billa and his students have cleared and put up proper football nets. The teams compete in local and national championships and as a coach you will have the chance to travel with them to support their matches.

Coaching with the UCC is a great opportunity to play with local children, fostering respect for team work and discipline, as well as sharing in a massive element of modern Ghanaian culture. Ghanaians love football and are instant best friends with anyone who can talk about the latest Premiership results, or put a ball past them on the pitch.

You can combine this with the other aspects of volunteering at the UCC such as teaching or creative arts. We can build a programme that is rewarding, challenging and suitable to you.
